Deseret Island
As I arrived in the city of Salt Lake City, a city fairly referred to as the Deseret Island due to the city’s strong communal religious qualities, I quickly noticed that this city is as beautifully sui generis as any other city across this nation. Within this city you see the pulling’s, and remnants of cultures, religions, and ethnicities that you would commonly see populating many other far-to-reach places within the US. However, the Deseret Island presents itself as a large, open field-like melting pot of many different communities coming together to live within an alluring mountainous town. With it’s high-morals, and strong fellowship to religion, the Deseret Island also promises an overwhelming sense of inclusivity. Here, everyone is excepted, and everyone is cared for. It seems as if you can never be alone here, because everyone is included if they so wish to be.
Now, all that is great. I mean, who doesn’t want to feel welcomed? But, the real bowtie to this city lies within the vast landscapes, cityscapes and views. No matter where you go, it is impossible to escape the eye-popping mountains that seem to engulf the entire city. Sitting within those mountains lies the city views. With many poor, diminished buildings, you would think that the city does not offer much to the eye. However, sit around for five-minutes and watch as those shadows crawl around the larger, more renovated buildings. Those once beat-down buildings now look like antique gems, dress in beautiful lighting. This is not to say that the city only houses diminished buildings. No, it’s quite the opposite. In fact, the Deseret Island is a city decorated with beautiful architecture, industrialized facilities, an astonishing highway infostructure and tons more that provide an everlasting viewership for all. The best part is, beautiful visuals don’t stop their either, because when that lighting we spoke of earlier doesn’t wrap its way around the city buildings, it most definitely peers its way over the mountains, casting light over the city that will change your whole perception on what it means to be drawn-back.
Within this collection, you will see the images and visuals that I capture as I gander through all parts of the city. Being that there is beauty within every crack, I will look to document the striking moments I find as they are presented to me. Whether it’s the slow-moving street photography of the inner city, the close-knit community engagements of the suburbs, or the vast expanses of the mountainous terrain, I plan to be completely attached to a camera body. The Deseret Island is a viewing point of images for what I see, as it is presented, and delivered back to the loving city of Salt Lake City.
